Risk factors of brain atrophy in cognitively normal elderly

چکیده

Background Lifestyle-related risk factors (e.g., smoking) and common health problems hypertension) have been found to be associated with brain atrophy. However, it is still not clear about their independent contribution atrophy, especially among the elderly normal cognition. Here, we aim identify of atrophy in cognitively elderly. Method We included 419 subjects cognition (Table 1) from ADNI database (ADNI1/ADNI2/ADNI-GO) who had available data lifestyle-related (alcohol abuse, (obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, triglycerides, sleep disturbance) underwent 3D T1-weighted MRI scans at baseline. The images were processed AccuBrain IV2.0 quantify volumetric measures as listed Table 2. Univariate analyses performed ANCOVA investigate influence for each measure, while age, gender, education APOE4 carrier covaried out. further identified by entering them together a multivariate linear regression model predictors using backward elimination. Result In univariate analyses, obesity showed most widely throughout brain, followed hypertension which contributed cerebellum part cortical gray matter (GM), alcohol abuse that basal ganglia structures, triglycerides pons cerebellum, smoking medial temporal lobe 3). When other also considered 4), regions remained significant. Hypertension, contributions (p<0.05) several regions, disturbance (for parenchyma) cerebellum) only presented mild (0.05<p<0.10) Conclusion Obesity elderly, smoking. These results may facilitate interpretation intervention reversible caused specific factors.

Surgery and brain atrophy in cognitively normal elderly subjects and subjects diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment.

BACKGROUND Structural magnetic resonance imaging is used to longitudinally monitor the progression of Alzheimer disease from its presymptomatic to symptomatic phases. Using magnetic resonance imaging data from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, we tested the hypothesis that surgery would impact brain parameters associated with progression of dementia. METHODS Brain images from t...

Factors associated with morphometric brain changes in cognitively normal aging

Objective Cognitive impairment is associated with reductions in brain weight and volume. The factors related to morphometric brain changes in cognitively normal aging remain unknown. We aimed to identify which clinical factors are associated with morphometric brain changes in cognitively normal aging. Methods A cross-sectional study of 414 subjects, ≥50 years old submitted to clinical assessm...

Clock drawing performance in cognitively normal elderly.

The Clock Drawing Test (CDT) is a common neuropsychological measure sensitive to cognitive changes and functional skills (e.g., driving test performance) among older adults. However, normative data have not been adequately developed. We report the distribution of CDT scores using three common scoring systems [Mendez, M. F., Ala, T., & Underwood, K. L. (1992). Development of scoring criteria for...

Albuminuria, Cerebrovascular Disease and Cortical Atrophy: among Cognitively Normal Elderly Individuals

We tested the hypothesis that decreased glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria have different roles in brain structure alterations. We enrolled 1,215 cognitively normal individuals, all of whom underwent high-resolution T1-weighted volumetric magnetic resonance imaging scans. The cerebral small vessel disease burdens were assessed with white matter hyperintensities (WMH), lacunes, and micro...

Subregional hippocampal atrophy predicts Alzheimer's dementia in the cognitively normal.

Atrophic changes of the hippocampus are typically regarded as an early sign of Alzheimer's dementia (AD). Using the radial distance atrophy mapping approach, we compared the longitudinal MRI data of 10 cognitively normal elderly subjects who remained normal at 3-year and 6-year follow-up (NL-NL) and 7 cognitively normal elderly subjects who were diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) 2....
